I have done quite a bit of work in the TV Gold section of the website with the help of website visitor and Callan fan Mandy Knighton-Clarke.

I was particularly pleased to find that Mandy has tracked down more of the short stories that were published in the Sunday Express in the 1970s (and so far as I am aware appeared nowhere else before or since). I have uploaded scans of four of them.

I have also uploaded the Callan Christmas story "Merry Christmas from the Section" that was featured in the TV Times Christmas Extra Magazine way back in 1967.

I have tracked down another of the actors who appeared in a Michael Bird creation. Michael Chesden played Major Lambrinos - the Greek policeman who is seen commiserating with Anne Tierney after the death of her husband in The Dark Side of the Sun.

Chesden (real name Michael Theodorou) has his own website http://michaeltheodorou.weebly.com/index.html. He tells me "I do have a few recollections of Michael Bird from filming in Glasgow and would be delighted to pen something."

In 2003 Chesden joined Cokethorpe School in Oxfordshire as Head of Drama and he has written several plays - all of which have been published.

I have been approached by Richard Marson who tells me that his book INSIDE UPDOWN about the making of the series UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS is being re-published in October, in a fully revised and updated edition. Richard confirmed that he had contact with Michael Bird when he was writing the first edition of the book. He said Bird "was very interesting about the first series episode which he was commissioned to write but eventually had to hand over to another writer as he simply didn't have time to complete it."

Richard was trying to track down a picture of the late Cyril Coke who shared directing work on The Lotus Eaters and was married to one time TV presenter Muriel Young. It may already be too late, but if anyone has any suggestions drop me a line and I will pass it on to Richard.

After almost 10 years of running the website I have finally managed to get a copy of the September 1983 Radio Times which introduced The Dark Side of the Sun. Every time one has come up on e-Bay I have been outbid. It clearly includes something else which makes it particularly collectible. (I will find out what when my copy arrives later this week.)
