GREECE AND BRITAIN SINCE 1945 I have mentioned a couple of times my involvement in a new book to be
published on the relationship between Greece and Britain since 1945.
My chapter deals with Michael Bird's creations set in Greece. Full details of the book have now appeared on, and it can be ordered from,
the Cambridge Scholars Publishing website and I have been advised
that it will be published in May. At £34.99 it is not cheap by any means but
I have included a flyer on the MJB website
if anyone would like to know more. |
“The Stories of Rhys - The Great Orme” Forgive me indulging in a non Michael Bird “plug”. Chris Williams (a long-time supporter of the MJB website and a fellow writer) tells me that his book - “The Stories of Rhys - The Great Orme” - has been accepted for inclusion on Authonomy, a website run by Harper Collins publishers. The Stories of Rhys is a book of dragon stories for the 7 - 10 age group. Chris tells me that each month Harper Collins cream off the top five books and review them for publishing based on the number of reviews. Chris hopes to get the book to No.1 in the children’s section and in the top five books overall. If you have time and feel able please lend your support. The link below will take you to the website. The illustrations for the book are available to view on the Rhys website at The Stories of Rhys |

THE APHRODITE INHERITANCE I recently bought on e-Bay a copy of a Dutch magazine "Prive" from 1979. It contains an interview with Alexandra Bastedo, star of Michael Bird's The Aphrodite Inheritance. Anna Pereboom has kindly translated the piece into English for me and both Dutch and English versions are now up on the website. The purchase kicked off a profitable relationship with the seller - who has a vast collection of old magazines. He has so far unearthed for me publications containing interviews with Jack Hedley and Betty Arvaniti, from Who Pays the Ferryman? and Emily Richard, from The Dark Side of the Sun. I have uploaded scans (for anyone who speaks Dutch) and Anna is dutifully working her way through translating them for us. I will upload the translations as and when I receive them. |

WHO PAYS THE FERRYMAN?
I thought I had seen all the commercial releases of the Who Pays The Ferryman? soundtrack so I was intrigued to see a listing on e-Bay for another casette tape version. Having spotted it towards the end of the listing time I contacted the seller and asked for a bit more information. After he had visited the MJB website he kindly said that he would not relist the item but would donate it to the website. We are both puzzled by the fact that the sleeve has a large number '2' after the title. I will upload a scan to the Ferryman music page. If anyone has any suggestions what the significance is I'd be interested. |
