WEST OF PARADISE A few months ago I remarked on the sudden appearance of old YTV publicity stills on e-Bay.
I succeeded in buying a couple of shots from The Winning Streak, then came Out of the Shadows and
finally The Outsider.
Last month it was the turn of West of Paradise, the TV movie starring Art Malik which
was filmed in the Seychelles. I have no idea why anyone still has publicity stills from
obscure 25 year old TV movies but it is nice to bring them into the fold,
and being the sad sort of guy I am I get even more fun when they have those
official YTV caption sheets stuck on the back.
I have added them to the West of Paradise page of the website.

WHO PAYS THE FERRYMAN? - Locations The resourceful Anna Pereboom, on her annual visit to Elounda, managed to track down another of the locations used in Who Pays the Ferryman? - the village of Dafni (in actual fact the village of Fourni, about 15 km. from Elounda). One of the photographs - a long shot of the village - Anna says she took two years ago "not realising that I was actually looking at the village I'd been searching for for years" she added. "Unfortunately I concentrated too much on the area around the church and I didn't take any photo's in the rest of the village. I don't have any of the cafenion where the Aussie comes to ask information about the local priest and the spot where the street fight took place. It's very hard to get it right when you are actually walking around the village. You think you have a clear picture in your mind but things change. Houses have been renovated, trees chopped down etc. But we will be going back next holiday and I'll try and sort out the rest of the locations." That's what I call dedication! |

THE APHRODITE INHERITANCE I mentioned in a previous newsletter Linda Sutton's paintings which were inspired by The Aphrodite Inheritance. Linda tells me that a study of one of the paintings is now hanging in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2009. It was inspired by Brian Blessed, Alexandra Bastedo and Stefan Gryff in the swimming-pool scene. Linda tells me the painting sold before the show opened to the public, but a limited edition giclee print of it, on archival paper, is available directly from the artist. It is priced at £60 + postage and packing. You can contact Linda through her website: http://www.lindasutton.com |

THE WINNING STREAK I was pleased to help out rally enthusiast, and website vistor, Jim Goodman track down a copy of Michael Bird's YTV series The Winning Streak recently. Not sure which of us was the more surprised when Jim e-mailed me later saying "I didn't realise that we were in the final episode! The white Mk2 Escort No. 40 is Ian Oldfield and me on the NatB in 1985." Rally enthusiasts might like to take a look at Jim's classy looking website Pacenote Publishing (http://www.pacenotepublishing.com/) from where you can order copies of Jim's book Flat over crest. I have also added the details to The Winning Streak pages of the MJB website. |
